About Fiona

Fiona Whyte is is a widely-exhibited Auckland, New Zealand artist whose paintings and sculptures are held in private collections world-wide. She currently lives in Byron Bay, Australia to be close to her children.

Her acrylic on canvas paintings are cheerful, naive and vital, and capture perfectly the essence of New Zealand's coast and Auckland's cityscapes. Simplified forms, vivid colours and bold outlines depict visions of a less complicated lifestyle, but Fiona Whyte, artist with overtones of sophistication. Every building, plant or environment has its own personality.

Fiona's repertoire has expanded to include bronze sculptures, pewter and ceramic jewellery and a range of bags, all featuring the simplified forms and bold outlines her works are renowned for.

An established artist for 20 years, Fiona moved from Auckland in 1999 to the nearby rural town of Helensville to get some of that "less complicated lifestyle" for herself. In 2008 she moved from Helensville back to Auckland, and now lives in Australia.

A mother of five, she initially studied at Auckland's Elam School of Fine Arts. Many of her works are commissioned, both by corporates and private individuals, and she particularly enjoys the challenge of incorporating all the elements people want in their personal paintings.

Fiona has held highly successful solo and group exhibitions at the following:

  • New Vision Gallery
  • John Leech Gallery
  • Art Associates
  • Morgan Street Gallery
  • Art by the Sea
  • Art of this World
  • Masterworks
  • Charlotte H Gallery
  • Arts Desire
  • Art Bureau

Her work has also featured in New Zealand House and Garden magazine, and Fiona is listed in the "New Zealand Who's Who of the Visual and Fine Arts, Architecture, Crafts and Design".
